Scrapbooking - Cutting The Costs

At first glance, scrap booking may not seem to be a costly hobby when compared to golf for example, where you will need to purchase thousands of dollars worth of tools or maybe dance, where the costs can be really hard on the pocket book, but this is not the case. If you don't watch it while you spend, scrap booking can be even more costly in the long run because as you grow more and more engaged with this wonderful hobby, you will be forever adding and updating equipment.

What is frightening though about scrap booking is the fact that you can't really watch for your expenses because they are comparatively small and sometimes unnoticeable. You just end up paying more because of the amount that you purchase and the frequency that you purchase embellishments and such. If you are careful, you won't have to spend so much and this pastime need not be expensive so here are some tips and ideas to help you scrapbook for free or less than you are forking out now.

One of the things that make it so costly for most people is their desire to purchase the latest and greatest upgraded equipment. For example, when I browse for new paper patterns I get overwhelmed at all the wonderful designs out there when I already have a nice collection setting in one of my scrapbook paper storage organizers that is just as wonderful and exciting. Sometimes you just need to stop and remember, what you have on hand is more then enough to work with.

Also, if you stop and take a look around your home you will most likely find more then enough items laying around that you can use as texture to your scrapbook pages. Forget the cool looking stickers. You can achieve the same look, probably even a better if you cut out image from magazines and in old greeting cards. Stationery is another great generator of graphics that you can use.

One really good way to come up with scraps and embellishments is to save old clothing and use pieces from them. Take the old fasteners and zippers, buttons. All these things will work wonderfully in your projects and save you money. This also helps you to get rid of the clutter in your closet. Leave no closet or drawer unturned.

When it comes to scrapbooks many people purchase books and albums that are already made and then start creating from there. These books can cost quite a bit of money. These too can be made at home. Yes, it takes more time to do it this way. But if you stop to think about it, the money you are spending on these supplies to time to make as well. I guess it comes down to how much of your hard earned money you are willing to give away.

Take a variety of paper and stitch them together on the sides or gluing them together. This will be cheaper than actually buying a pre-made book and above all, it will be unique.
